Happy Sunday, people of Los Angeles, and happy Galentine’s Day! Here's what's going on today in town.
If you’re not prepared for the heat, head to one of the nearby cooling centers. Also, eat like a young Eminem for one day. Finally, there’s a temporary flight restriction around SoFi.

- If the heat is catching you unprepared, consider heading to a cooling center. The City announced Tuesday that its “cooling centers are open and available during regular hours of operation unless otherwise noted.” You can call 3-1-1 from inside the City to find your closest one. (Patch)
- What does Eminem’s Mom's Spaghetti taste like? Usually, you have to travel to Detroit to eat the rapper’s food. However, today (on Sunday), you can head to a pop-up at 820 South Spring Street from 4 PM to 8 PM and get a serving. If you’d rather gnaw off your hand than go downtown, call Postmates to pick you up a plate. (NBC)
- The FAA announced temporary flight restrictions for the Super Bowl. They run on Sunday from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This no-fly-zone affects a 30-mile circle around SoFi and goes up to 8,000 feet. “The TFR will not impact regularly scheduled commercial flights at Los Angeles International Airport. Nor will it affect emergency, medical, public safety or military aircraft.” (Patch)
- Another candidate is running for mayor; 63-year-old billionaire Rick Caruso entered the race on Friday. Among the more high-profile names of the competition include U.S. Rep. Karen Bass, City Councilmen Joe Buscaino and Kevin de Leon, and City Attorney Mike Feuer. Supporters consider him “an outsider taking on the political status quo” while Feuer has already labeled him “‘Trumpian’ values.” (KTLA)
- American Jewish University announced Friday that it will sell its “valuable real estate on top of Mulholland Drive.” What was to be the answer to Brandeis and Yeshiva universities failed to take off as hoped. For many in the community, the loss “of that glorious piece of Jewish real estate on top of fabled Mulholland Drive represents the end of an era, if not the end of a dream.” (Jewish Journal)
