Corvette Wedges Underneath Big Rig In Latest 5 Freeway SigAlert

CASTAIC, CA —A Corvette slammed into the back of a big rig, becoming wedged underneath the truck and trapping at least one person on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Castaic area Thursday.

Firefighters frantically worked to free the trapped person, and the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert.

The crash was reported at about 11:45 a.m. near Parker Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Video from the scene showed the car, which appeared to be an orange Chevrolet Camaro, wedged beneath the truck trailer and flattened while fire crews scrambled to reach the person inside.

According to the CHP, the driver was reported for driving erratically before the crash.

The extent of the driver's injuries were not immediately known.

Three northbound lanes were closed while an investigation was conducted, a closure that was continuing early Thursday afternoon.

It was the third day in a row that a SigAlert shut down the stretch of the 5 Freeway between the Santa Clarita Valley and the San Diego (405) Freeway interchange.

On Wednesday, several lanes were closed for nearly 10 hours following an explosive crash involving two big rigs near the 405 freeway transition.

It took 80 firefighters 38 minutes to extinguish flames that engulfed a tanker transporting meeting, according to the Los Angeles Fire Departemt.

"One male driver successfully escaped his burning cab, and passing motorists stopped to help extinguish the flames on his clothes and body," said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
