Off-Duty Reserve LAPD Officer Shot, Hospitalized

BELLFLOWER, CA — An off-duty reserve Los Angeles Police Department officer was shot at a Bellflower gas station Sunday and hospitalized with a lower leg injury.

The shooting occurred about 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Berri Brothers Gas Station at 9355 Somerset Blvd., at Clark Avenue, according to Lt. Mark Stonich of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lakewood station.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the officer, whose name was not provided, was not the intended target of the shooting, Stonich said.

The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle, Stonich said.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately available.
