Search On For Escaped Prisoner In LA County

Authorities are searching for an inmate who walked away from a state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County on Sunday night.

Alejandro A. Tobarfuentes, 33, left the Francisquito Conservation Camp, which is located in a mountainous area between Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley, according to corrections officials.

Staff discovered that Tobarfuentes was missing from the facility at 10 p.m. They commenced an emergency count of inmates and confirmed his absence, officials said in a news release.

"Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were directed to locate and apprehend Tobarfuentes and notification was made to local law enforcement," the release reads.

Tobarfuentes came to the camp from Orange County in May after he was sentenced to four years and eight months for first-degree burglary and displaying a forged driver's license or ID, officials said.

The Francisquito Conservation Camp is jointly operated by the state corrections department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Crews based at the camp work on wildfire suppression, conservation, maintenance of the California Aqueduct and at local parks and fire stations, according to the CDCR.

Incarcerated people at the camp also paint and refurbish furniture for other state agencies.

Tobarfuentes is 5-foot-10, 164 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a gray sweatshirt and an orange beanie, officials said.
