- A firebug set a car aflame on Monday. “The man, who police believe is homeless,” targeted a BMW that was parked on Grand Avenue close to Olympic Boulevard. The LAPD is using surveillance video in their investigation. (ABC)
- The Student 2 Student Success program could pay your high-schooler to tutor their “siblings or other school-aged relatives,” we learned Monday. To qualify, the high school student must live in L.A., be authorized to work in the U.S., be enrolled in an LAUSD Title I school, and apply for the program. "With Student 2 Student Success, we're making sure younger students get the extra support they need, and providing our tutors with a chance to explore a future career in education or child care," said Mayor Eric Garcetti. - On January 12, we discussed that City Council Member Kevin de León wants to rename Bailey Street between 1st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in honor of the late Vicente Fernández. On Tuesday, we learned that some members of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council don’t like the idea. They point to “instances of the legendary Mariachi’s inappropriate behavior.” Citing “an overwhelming level of support for this,” a spokesperson for de León explains that the effort will continue. - Alex Trebek’s five-bedroom, 11-bathroom home situated in the community of Fryman Estates is for sale. Trebek bought it in 1991 for $2.15 million. On Monday, we learned that it went on the market for $7 million. "Alex’s daughter, Emily Trebek, and Renee Ogiens with Compass hold the listing." (NY Post)
- International Holocaust Remembrance Day is Thursday. The Holocaust Museum LA will host a virtual commemoration. Auschwitz survivor David Lenga speaks at 11 a.m. at the beginning of the program. (DT News)
