  1. Sunday morning began at 2:15 a.m. with a gang-related shooting in the 5000 block of Alba Street (Central-Alameda neighborhood). Two men, one 45 years old, and the other 60, were shot by two other men. The younger man died. (Patch)
  2. On Thursday, the LAFD was called to a trash fire at a homeless encampment. Located at 940 South Hill Street, people had set up makeshift shelters in a parking structure of the vacant building. There were no injuries. (losangelesfiredepartment)
  3. Firefighters rescued two construction workers Saturday morning around 10:13 a.m. They were working at a Sun Valley home when they became trapped by “the wall of a 4-foot deep trench.” It appears that the "'makeshift shoring' gave way and a concrete slab fell along with the soil.” (ABC)
  4. The identity of the spandex-wearing building climber has been revealed. On January 20, a person in a Spider-Man costume with a Wolverine sidekick climbed up a downtown L.A. high-rise. An unfurled banner encouraged Marvel to call. On Saturday, we learned that it was a would-be actor who auditioned for the role of “Peter Parker” but was not selected. The stunt was his appeal. Also, this stunt was not nearly as impromptu as it appeared. “Guys, by the way, this entire thing was done under the supervision of safety professionals and all permits were applied for,” the climber explained. (KTLA)
  5. LA Rams Offensive Lineman Andrew Whitworth (#77) and his wife are “behind a still un-spooling list of good deeds that range from small to massive, including writing a check for $250,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank,” we learned Saturday. This is just one of the many reasons why Whitworth is on the Rams’ shortlist of nominees “for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.” Incidentally, the Super Bowl will be the athlete’s “last game after 16 years in the NFL.” (KEYT)
