- Safety improvements are coming to the intersection of Culver Blvd. and Pershing Dr. We learned Thursday that construction will begin soon. Improvements include “a HAWK signal, ADA ramps, a repaved intersection, and a pedestrian refuge median.” (@MikeBoninLA)
- A street vendor died Thursday near East 48th and South Main as the result of a traffic accident. The driver had allegedly stolen an Amazon truck and was fleeing from the police. “Police tell ABC7 the driver was taken into custody shortly after.” (ABC)
- On Wednesday, the LAPD released photos of a suspect in the Tuesday attack on a woman near the 800 block of Vista Street. She was able to break free and get help. The suspect then went to the 7600 block of Hampton Avenue, where he attacked another woman. We learned Thursday afternoon that the suspect was arrested in downtown L.A. (@LAPDHQ, @GigiGraciette)
- How are the earliest poll numbers in the race for L.A. mayor looking? According to the L.A. Times on Thursday, 40% of polled voters were undecided. Karen Bass is leading the pack with 32%. DeLeon and Caruso each have 8%. Buscaino and Feuer come in at 4% each. (@Elex_Michaelson)
- If you’re an unvaccinated public employee, there’s some good news this Thursday. You don’t have to test for COVID as often as the rules initially stipulated. It will go “from twice-weekly to once weekly.” The reasons, according to an insider, were “major” testing program issues such as lost test kits and “test kits (that) may have been intentionally sabotaged by employees.” When asked “about the reasons for the testing reduction, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti's office said it was a result of the falling COVID-19 case rate.” (NBC)
