KTLA Reporter Forced To Cover Up With Sweater: 'There Is No Controversy'

"I truly love my job," Liberte Chan wrote in a blog post.

Update: KTLA meteorologist Liberte Chan responded to the controversy over having to cover up her dress live on air during a broadcast in a blog post on her personal website.

"For the record, there is no controversy at KTLA," Chan wrote. "My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment.. I truly love my job, I like my bosses and enjoy working with my coworkers. Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone. We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that."

KTLA meteorologist Liberte Chan was forced to put on a cardigan on-air, apparently to cover up her black dress that caused the station to get "a lot of emails."

In a video of the incident posted to Twitter by Megan McGrath, Chan is giving a routine weather forecast Saturday when a hand appears on the right side of the screen, holding up a gray cardigan.

"What's going on?" Chan says.

She seemed to think it was just a gag about the weather — 61 degrees in LA? Time to bundle up.

But, nope, "We're getting a lot of emails," a voice off-camera says.

Watch video of the exchange below:

Chan had apparently been wearing a different dress earlier in the day that didn't jibe with the green-screen she has to stand in front of during her weather reports. So, she had to change into the black dress in question.

The video, which was widely shared Sunday morning, drew a heated reaction from people who found the gesture inappropriate and sexist.

McGrath's video has been retweeted more than 1,000 times by Sunday morning.

Chan seemed to handle the incident in stride:

She posted a video to her Facebook page, where a colleague read some of the emails the station got:

Earlier in the day, she even seemed pretty excited about getting to wear the dress in question:

KTLA has not said anything about the incident on its social media platforms. Patch has reached out to the station for more information, and we'll let you know when we hear back.
