📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. A hit-and-run driver injured three children and an adult at 100 East 111th Place “in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood on Monday morning.” Authorities call this a high-speed crash that required rescue of these individuals from “an SUV that had crashed into a building.” Reportedly, “a sedan also involved in the crash was on fire when firefighters arrived, but the driver had apparently fled the scene.” (KTLA)
  2. The week didn’t start off smoothly on the Harbor Freeway this Monday. Around 4:30 a.m., “a big rig loaded with propane overturned” and wreaked havoc “on a busy transition road from the Harbor (110) Freeway to the Santa Monica (10) Freeway.” And, since the rig overturned under a bridge, attempts to put it back on its wheels were harder to pull off. The HazMat Squad “confirmed there are no propane leaks at this time” although there’s some damage to the tank. The rig’s driver was not hurt. (Patch)
  3. What’s going on with the planned gondola to Dodger Stadium? The goal is to move passengers from Union Station to the stadium — just in time for the 2028 Olympics. However, we learned on Monday that the seven-minute ride is under fire from “Chinatown neighbors and environmental groups.” Criticisms include assertions that Metro “failed to follow the public bidding process.” Residents fear gentrification. A court ruling could come in the spring; so far, we have not heard from new Mayor Karen Bass. (L.A. Times/paywall)
  4. Located at 468 South La Brea Avenue and in Downtown Disney, the La Brea Bakery Café announced on Monday that it will close both locations. “Our flagship Café location on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles is where the La Brea Bakery magic started 34 years ago.” However, all is not lost; “you can still find our delicious La Brea Bakery artisan breads in your local grocery in-store bakery and at other locations that serve artisan breads” as well as in the Reno International and JFK airports. (PR Newswire)
  5. And, speaking of closures, Macy’s will close its L.A. location at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. We learned last week that this move is part of the company’s “Polaris transformation strategy, which was first announced in 2020.” For shoppers, this means clearance sales starting this month and running for “eight to 12 weeks.” (Axios)
