LA Sheriff's Dept. Launches Wage Theft Task Force

The task force is intended to protect both undocumented and documented workers in Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced Saturday that the website for the department's Wage Theft Task Force has gone live.

The task force itself was launched in February. A collaboration with the California Labor Commission, the Office of Immigrant Affairs, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, LA County Federation of Labor and several community groups, it is intended to protect both undocumented and documented workers in Los Angeles County.

According to the sheriff's department, 30% of workers in Los Angeles County are paid less than minimum wage, and county workers are cheated out approximately $26-28 million on average per week.
