LA Street Racers Kill Pedestrian, 56, Police Say
A 56-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred during a street race in South Los Angeles, police said Saturday.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash believed to have occurred during a street race in South Los Angeles was identified Saturday.
Andre Smith was 56, coroner's Lt. Nani Cholakians said. His city of residence was not available.
Smith was struck shortly before 4 a.m. Friday at 92nd Street and Western Avenue, and died at the scene, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to the preliminary investigation, two motorists were racing northbound on Western when at least one of the vehicles hit Smith as he was walking westbound across Western at 92nd, Im said.
Neither motorist stopped to assist the fatally injured man, the officer said.

Police did not release descriptions of either vehicle.
