- On Sunday, the LAFD responded to a single-story house fire in Sun Valley. It took 45 firefighters a little over 30 minutes to knock down the fire on West Arminta Street. There are no reports of injuries, and all residents safely escaped before the FD arrived. (CBS)
- Also on Sunday, officers from the Foothill Division of the LAPD saved a pilot’s life. The pilot made an emergency landing on railroad tracks at San Fernando Road and Osborne Street. Body camera footage shows them pulling out the pilot seconds before the small plane was hit by a train. (@LAPDHQ)
- Metro bus fares came back Monday. However, to ease people back into paying for their rides, the fares are discounted through July. Discounted passes cost $3.50 for a day, $12.50 for a week, or $50 for a 30-day period. Riders may also apply to enroll in the Low-Income Fare is Easy (LIFE) program, which further discounts the cost of public transportation. (Spectrum News 1)
- Local mountain lion populations are facing a new threat: inbreeding. We learned Monday that some monitored animals had a “93% abnormal sperm rate.” A lack of genetic diversity can lead to reproduction problems and, eventually, the possibility of extinction. The problem is that there are two mountain lion populations that are “hemmed in to their respective mountain ranges by busy freeways in the greater Los Angeles area.” Caltrans intends to build a wildlife bridge over the 101 Freeway. If this step is unsuccessful, extinction may occur “within 50 years.” (KTLA)
- Los Angeles may see a Savage X Fenty in 2022. Singer and entrepreneur Rihanna announced on Friday that her lingerie line will be sold in brick-and-mortar stores rather than just online. “Because fit and comfort are so important, there are just customers who don’t feel comfortable purchasing online,” said the brand’s co-president.
