- Some crowds celebrated Sunday’s Super Bowl victory of the Los Angeles Rams with “surrounding passing vehicles, setting off fireworks, climbing signs and shutting down streets.” A group of people tagged a Metro bus, others shook vehicles with people in them, and then there were the break-ins. At 11 St and Figueroa, a driver started doing donuts in the intersection and was found to have a loaded gun in the car. “In total, 19 locations were vandalized, police said.” (News Break)
- The Rams’ starting safety Taylor Rapp took Sunday’s win, and perhaps the proximity of Valentine’s Day, to propose marriage to girlfriend, Dani Johnson. In traditional fashion, he got down to one knee on SoFi’s turf. She said yes. Congratulations! (CBS Sports)
- The LAFD responded to a traffic collision on Saturday. A driver’s SUV drove into a street vendor’s stand “in the 15400 block of Devonshire Street.” However, the “driver sustained only minor injury, and her sport utility vehicle missed pedestrians, causing only slight damage to a street vendor's wares.” (losangelesfiredepartment)
- We learned Monday that Los Angeles plans to recycle 100% of its wastewater. “That will help us provide a local source of water that’s sustainable and consistent,” a Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment representative explained. Right now, only 12 million gallons or so a day go to aquifers, while the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant releases treated water into Santa Monica Bay. (KESQ)
- Speaking of Hyperion, a Friday report indicates that the release of “17 million gallons of raw sewage into the ocean” in July was not due to a “sudden, massive build-up of debris.” Instead, “an advisory committee the Los Angeles Department of Public Works formed” blamed “a combination of human and technological mistakes.” Examples include failures of the plant’s choppers pumps and bar screens, as well as only a partial installation of a computerized distribution control system. “Another issue was that a tiered system for alarms doesn’t currently exist.” (Press-Telegram)
