- Has someone recently broken into your car? Are you missing a purse, iPad, credit card, sunglasses, or luggage? On Thursday, the LAPD Wilshire arrested “4 suspects that stole from cars at restaurants, malls, gyms and tourist locations in a city-wide crime spree.” Check out the photos and see if any of the things belong to you. - The Whitsett Sports Field homeless encampment near Sherman Way and the 170 Freeway saw some police action Friday evening around 8:15 p.m. Someone reported an agitated and armed man inside the encampment. SWAT rolled after several hours of negotiations, and the individual “was finally taken into custody at 1:20 a.m. Saturday morning.” (CBS)
- On Thursday, the LAFD unveiled a new program that offers “specialized mobile assistance and transportation for those experiencing serious psychological crisis.” Teams with special training will be available around the clock to assist residents. There will be five of these mobile units “deployed from five strategically located LAFD stations.” (Los Angeles Fire Department)
- An Oscar-winning sound mixer quit the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Saturday. The reason for resigning from the organization that hands out the Academy Awards was timing. It planned “to present Academy Awards in several categories — including sound — prior to the show’s national telecast.” Falling ratings have the Academy looking for ways to make the ceremony “tighter and more electric.” (Spectrum New 1)
- Grassroots organizers want to place an item on the ballot, “mandating that L.A. implement its own Mobility Plan when repaving streets.” As of Saturday, the City Council has a plan that passed in 2015; however, only 3% have been implemented. (@LosAngelesWalks)
