  1. Homesick is a company that makes candles with certain scents to evoke memories of a place. We learned Friday that there’s a Los Angeles candle, which had Reddit users debating what the city smells like. While “the inside of a car” or “bacon-wrapped hotdogs” were some ideas, the actual candle is made using “energetic citrus notes of orange, lemon, and bergamot with a touch of fresh coffee, accented with delicate, floral notes of jasmine, rose, and ylang ylang.” (KTLA)
  2. Dorsey High School computer science students teamed up with the LAPD to draft de-escalation scenarios. As part of their AP grade, they participated in Building Blue Bridges and agreed to have Chief Michel Moore look over the plans. While the projects were learning experiences for both sides, there’s no word if the LAPD will use any of the ideas the students had. (CBS)
  3. Remember when the Metropolitan Water District was located at 1111 Sunset Boulevard? We learned Friday that Palisades, an L.A. developer, received the “City Planning Commission's approval in its bid to build a mixed-use, high-rise complex” at this location. Construction would be completed by 2028. (Urbanize)
  4. Just after the L.A. City Council voted to have Herb Wesson fill the vacant 10th District seat, a judge put the kibosh on the idea. According to Thursday’s report, there’s a “preliminary injunction hearing on March 17.” “The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California and others filed a lawsuit late last week seeking to get Mark Ridley-Thomas reinstated and block Wesson's appointment.” You may remember that Ridley-Thomas was suspended after his indictment on federal corruption charges. (LAist)
  5. Strikers employed by Jon Donaire Desserts ended their 113-day walk-out on Thursday. They wanted a $1 raise. “The workers belong to Bakery, Confection, and Tobacco Grain Milling Local 37 and are mainly immigrant Latina women.” They finally got it. (LA Mag)
