LOS ANGELES — As the weekend wraps, we've rounded up some of the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into SoCal's other top stories: SoCal is in for a wide-reaching heat wave to kick off the week with forecasters expecting temps to surge well above normal in the mountains and valleys. The first two days of the workweek look hottest, and Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange counties will be under a heat advisory as afternoon highs climb into the mid-90s.

Excessive heat warnings or advisories have been issued for a wide swath of inland areas.

"Very hot conditions through the middle of the upcoming week, with heat peaking on Monday and Tuesday," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Temperatures begin to moderate slightly on Wednesday, with cooling becoming more noticeable Thursday."

Some relief from the heat will arrive before long, and forecasters are also tracking monsoonal moisture due in the back half of the week, which could bring some showers and thunderstorms by Friday.
