Malibu Fire Road Closures: Franklin Fire Shuts Down PCH
The city's main thoroughfare is closed to traffic to enable evacuees to quickly escape the fire danger.

MALIBU, CA — As the raging Franklin Fire threatens more than 2,000 homes and buildings in Malibu Tuesday, the blaze also forced the closure of the city's main thoroughfare.
The fire has shut down Pacific Coast Highway between Carbon Canyon and Corral Canyon Road. Only evacuees can use the road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Non-residents are urged to avoid the area to keep roads open for evacuees.
As of 10:30 a.m., the county fire department and Caltrans listed the following road closures:

- Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Carbon Canyon and Corral Canyon Road to evacuees only
- Pacific Coast Highway is closed in both directions between Kanan Dume Rd and Topanga Canyon Boulevard

Evacuation Orders:
- South of Piuma Road, north of the Pacific Ocean coastline, east of Puerco Canyon Road/Corral Canyon Park, west of Los Flores Canyon Road
- Between the Pacific Ocean coastline and Tuna Canyon Park to the west of Tuna Canyon Road
- Evacuation Warnings:
- East of Trancas Canyon Road and Kanan Dune Road, west of Topanga Canyon Blvd/Surfview Drive, south of Mulholland Highway, north of Evacuation Order boundary. Includes Topanga Zone 8 and 10

Driven by Santa Ana wind gusts of 45 mph, the Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon quickly grew to more than 2,200 acres Tuesday near Pepperdine University. According to authorities, only a "minimal" number of homes have been destroyed.
