Theft At LA County Home Depot Ends With Death Outside Store, Accomplice Escapes: Police

A man died in a Glendale parking lot after a theft at Home Depot, while his accomplice fled the scene, police said.

GLENDALE, CA — A man died Thursday morning outside a Home Depot after being involved in a theft at the store, according to police.

Police responded to reports about a man having a medical emergency in the store's parking lot on San Fernando Road, just north of Colorado Street, after 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the Glendale Police Department.

The man, who was in his 40s, had been a passenger in a vehicle driven by another person, who was also involved in the theft, police said.

A bystander saw the man "showing signs of a medical emergency' and pulled the man out of the vehicle, police said.

The Glendale Fire Department responded and administered aid. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"During the course of the investigation, officers learned the deceased male had entered the Home Depot and was involved in a theft prior to experiencing the medical emergency. The second male, who had been driving the vehicle, left the scene before police arrived," police said.

The incident is under investigation. Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
