Man Shot By LAPD Was Using Shard Of Glass To Stab Himself: Report

The shooting occurred Friday morning.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man who was using a large piece of glass to harm himself in Koreatown was shot by police Friday morning, according to a report.

Officers were called to Vermont Avenue near Eighth Street at around 7:15 a.m. Friday, where they encountered a man in his 30s who was using the piece of glass to stab himself in the neck, CBS Los Angeles reported.

At some point during the interaction between police and the man, one or more officers opened fire, according to the report.

The man was hit by gunfire, then taken into custody, police said. Fire paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was in critical condition, according to police.

No others were injured during the incident, police said, adding that the area is expected to be "closed for several hours as the investigation continues."
