Man Tries To Take Over Self-Driving Taxi In Downtown LA: Police

The man may have been under the influence, police said.

LOS ANGELES — A man tried to steal a self-driving taxi overnight in downtown Los Angeles, according to police.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Thursday near South Hill and Fifth streets, where a man was sitting in the driver’s seat of a self-driving white Jaguar attempting to drive the car, police said, adding the man may have been under the influence.

KTLA reported the vehicle was a Waymo taxi. Officers took the man into custody, according to police.
