- While football fans and commentators were entering SoFi on Sunday, medical freedom protestors attempted to shut down access to the Super Bowl. Starting at noon, participants “accused state officials of hosting ‘a Super Bowl while forcing kids’ to wear masks in schools.” Governor Gavin Newsom will be considering school masking rules this week. - There was a fire Saturday morning around 6:54 a.m. at 761 South Vermont Ave. It took 89 LAFD personnel 36 minutes to extinguish the Koreatown blaze. It "started as an exterior rubbish fire that extended into the wall and interior of a unit in a row of the businesses.” (CBS)
- Saturday evening around 7 p.m., the FD was headed to the area “around East Sierra Avenue and Azusa Veterans Way.” The brush fire, which was officially referred to as the Madre Fire, burned about two acres of land by 9 p.m. “The department was using two water-dropping helicopters and night vision technology in their battle to control the flames.” (Patch)
- The Japanese American National Museum plans to live-stream L.A.’s Day of Remembrance on Saturday via its YouTube channel. This year’s theme is: “Power of Communities: Building Strength Through Collective Action.” “The annual event commemorates President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066 on Feb. 19, 1942, which resulted in the unjust incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese and Japanese Americans in American concentration camps.” (RAFU)
- The filing deadly for anyone wanting to run for mayor in Los Angeles was Saturday. So far, there’s a large field of would-be candidates, which include a communist, chiropractor, and an astronaut. However, to actually make it onto the ballot, each must present “a minimum of 500 valid signatures from voters.” (My News LA)
