📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Do you remember the assortment of illegal fireworks on East 27th Street, which prompted a police response in June 2021? At the time, authorities found 16 tons of fireworks, some of which the bomb squad detonated in an event that caused damage, injury and displacement of residents. The 27-year-old owner of these fireworks pleaded guilty to “one count of transportation of explosives, from Nevada to California, without a license” and was sentenced on Wednesday to five months in federal prison. There’s no restitution order. (AP)

2) There was an attempted burglary early Thursday morning in the 2000 block of West Silver Lake Drive. Three suspects reportedly attempted to burgle a residence but were interrupted by the Los Angeles Police Department. One suspect was apprehended; two fled on foot. They left their car behind. (The Eastsider LA)

3) Right around 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, a mountain lion was sighted “near San Vicente Blvd. at S. Gretna Green Way, which is near the Brentwood County Club and Brentwood Science Magnet.” Officials were on hand to tranquilize the big cat. There’s no word yet if it's P-22, who is affectionately known as the Hollywood Cat. (Fox)

4) In September, the historic Victory Baptist Church at 4802 South McKinley Avenue burned to the ground in what appeared to be arson. On Thursday, we learned that the LAPD had approached the pastor to get permission to host an early visit from Santa Claus for a “toy giveaway in the church parking lot to help bring some joy to a community that has been through so much.” (CBS)

5) Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the place to be tomorrow! There’ll be processions across the cemetery grounds, Aztec dances, altars, and art. Prizes will be awarded for “the best dressed Calaca (skeleton), as well as the most memorable altars.” This year, you can visit Hollywood Forever for Dia de Los Muertos from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Noche de Los Muertos from 5 PM to midnight.
