Mountain Lion Spotted Prowling LA County Neighborhood

There have been numerous mountain lion sightings over the last day in the San Gabriel Valley.

SIERRA MADRE, CA — There have been several mountain lion sightings in Sierra Madre in the last day, according to the city's police department.

The first reports were of a mountain lion seen around the 300 block of West Carter Avenue, a neighborhood that abuts the San Gabriel Mountains. The sightings occurred Wednesday around 9 p.m., according to police.

The Police Department sent out another alert Thursday at around 9:21 a.m. stating that a mountain lion was spotted in the area of Baldwin Avenue between Carter Avenue and Mira Monte.

"Our officers are aware of the situation and are monitoring the animal's activity," police said.

If you ever spot a mountain lion, the National Park Service advises people to stay calm, face the lion, stand up and back away slowly. People should not approach mountain lions, nor run from them, and should avoid crouching down or bending over.

If the lion moves in your direction or acts aggressively, try to appear intimidating by raising your arm, and speaking in a loud voice.
