NBA Player Opens Fire During Failed LA Home-Invasion Burglary: Reports

The former Lakers player opened fire during a failed Los Angeles home-invasion burglary, according to reports.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — A former Lakers player opened fire on three would-be burglars Wednesday after they broke into the Sherman Oaks home he was in, according to a reports.

Former Lakers forward Christian Wood was inside the home on the 14800 block of Otsego Street when three suspects broke through the back door at around 1 p.m., KTLA reported.

An armed Wood confronted the invaders by firing three to four rounds at the ground, NBC Los Angeles reported.

That scared off the suspects, who fled the home and drove down Otsego Street towards Sepulveda Boulevard in a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee, CBS Los Angeles reported.

The suspects remain at large, police told the outlets.

No property was taken from the home during the incident, CBS Los Angeles reported.

Neighbors told NBC LA that the home is used as an Airbnb.

Wood, a Long Beach native, made his NBA debut in 2015 playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.

He signed with the Lakers in 2023, and was waived by the team following the end of the season after dealing with an injury. He's currently an NBA free agent.
