One Man Is Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting In Compton: Police

Breaking: The man opened fire on police during a traffic stop.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man is dead after firing at Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop Wednesday night, according to the sheriff's department. One officer was hurt in the incident.

Police say at approximately 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, deputies pulled over a white sedan on the 900 block of North Santa Fe Avenue in Compton. Deputies saw three people in the car. As they approached the car, a Hispanic man opened the rear passenger door of the vehicle, armed himself with a handgun, pointed it at one of the deputies, and opened fire.

The man was struck by deputy gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other two occupants of the vehicle, both Hispanic women, are being detained pending further investigation. The man's gun was recovered at the scene. Police believe he was a gang member.
