(Patch Media)

Good day, neighbors; today is Anosmia Awareness Day! Sylvia here with a fresh Los Angeles Daily.

A suspect was brought to a stop, not by spike strips, but a popped hood. Also, anti-war protesters assembled. Finally, a shipping container produces kale.

  1. Thursday night around 11:10 p.m. there was a Freeway chase on the 10. With L.A. County sheriff's deputies in hot pursuit, the suspect made several U-turns and used surface streets in addition to freeways. However, the chase came to an end when the car’s “hood popped open high enough to obscure the driver's vision” while racing down the 10. The driver gave up, “exited the car, and crawled over to authorities.” (ABC)
  2. Anti-war protesters assembled Thursday evening “at the intersection of Laurel Canyon and Ventura boulevards.” Sentiments ran from "USA: DON'T LEAVE UKRAINE ALONE" to “Arrest Putin!” Peace-loving Ukrainian and Russian protesters felt helpless, saying “Our country is struggling and the only thing we can do is bring attention to what's going on.” (ABC)
  3. L.A. has an indoor farm. We learned Thursday that it produced bushels of kale. Why is this exciting? Because this indoor farm is set up in a reused shipping container that represents a pilot program to deal with drought by “growing crops year-round with water and energy efficiency.” (Patch)
  4. Do you remember back in June, when the LAPD bomb squad detonated illegal fireworks on East 27th Street and caused an explosion that damaged property and displaced residents? We learned Saturday that “an expert team member” warned against blowing up the entire batch all at once. However, “his warnings were dismissed by both his colleagues and his supervisor.” (Patch)
  5. The 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are going down today at 5 p.m. You can watch the show on TNT and TBS. Instead of taking place at the Shrine Auditorium, the festivities take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. “There won’t be a host — but there will be a red carpet, bringing back a traditional touch of Hollywood glamour, although celebs will have to social distance and wear masks, except when on camera.” (CBS)
