📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. Do you live near the beach? Consider stocking up on some sandbags before this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, we’re expecting “gusty winds of up to 25 knots and outer waters of up to 10 to 12 feet” with surf being “4 to 7 feet on the coasts near the Los Angeles area.” Experts warn of coastal flooding. (KTLA)
  2. What’ll happen to Ms Donuts at 1353 Glendale Boulevard? The property where it’s located is for sale and the news is that “the sale will be completed by the end of this month or the beginning of February.” The owners, Annenn and Sophany Nou, have been kept in the dark about their business’ future at the location; however, they have been on a month-to-month lease for about a year, which gives the new owner leverage. (The Eastsider LA)
  3. Hear ye, hear ye, the Banc of California Stadium is now the BMO Stadium. We learned on Thursday that the Bank of Montreal (BMO) acquired the naming rights of the venue at 3939 South Figueroa Street. BMO “is a Canadian financial firm moving aggressively into the U.S. with a proposed takeover of California-based Bank of the West.” Don’t mistake BMO Stadium for BMO Field, which it also owns. (Spectrum News1)
  4. Did you smell the pizza on Wednesday? It was a Pizza Hut publicity stunt. The company “cooked up a pizza measuring more than 14,100 square feet at the Los Angeles Convention Center” to announce and celebrate the “return of The Big New Yorker to its menu.” After the measuring, Pizza Hut donated the food to a number of charities. (ABC)
  5. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce will host the 124th Annual Golden Dragon Parade on January 28. It kicks off at 1 p.m. around Broadway and ends at Hill Street. “With over thousands and thousands of individuals lining the parade route and thousands viewing the telecast each year, this colorful celebration along North Broadway in Chinatown has become the premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community.” (Culture LA)
