📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. A man in his 60s died Friday afternoon at the Crenshaw Nursing Home, at 1900 South Longwood Avenue. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said the stabbing “occurred at just before 4 p.m.” A 35-year-old man was stabbed but survived. Reportedly, the people involved “were residents of the facility, and investigators believe the incident may have stemmed from an argument.” The suspect is a man in his 50s who was detained. (ABC)
  2. Has the so-called "Tesla Terrorist" been identified? The road-raging Tesla driver who’s been smashing cars with pipes on the 2 Freeway and elsewhere around the city may have run afoul of TizzyEnt and his 5.3 million TikTok followers. “The influencer said three people came forward with the suspect's name, which he passed along to police.” Law enforcement acknowledged Friday that officials “believe they have identified the man, but an arrest has not been made yet.” (ABC)
  3. If your property was damaged during the recent rainstorms, you may get some relief. Property owners “may be eligible for property tax help” if they incurred more than $10,000 in damage. If this is you, apply for “misfortune and calamity relief” with the assessor and “it’ll reduce your assessment for that part of the property which was damaged or destroyed, giving you immediate tax relief and will allow you to rebuild and keep your tax base where there’ll be no increase in your assessment.” You might want to spread the word, because so far the LA County Assessor only received 20 applications. (Spectrum News1)
  4. The Ruben F. Salazar Park at 3864 Whittier Boulevard is getting a much-needed renovation. We learned Thursday that $11 million are earmarked for the project. On the wish list for this park are “permeable pavement in the parking lots,” new playground equipment, drought-resisting landscaping, updated restrooms, a splash pad, and “building a new plaza with a community stage next to the Paul Botello mural.” However, actual construction may not start until late in 2024. 5. Are you tired of the teasing you get for feeling cold when the mercury sinks to 50 degrees? It’s usually your Colorado or Michigan friend who’ll give you grief. However, insiders made a compelling point on Friday that “colder temperatures in Southern California do in fact feel cooler than the same temperature in a crisper climate.” They blame the absence of insulation in older buildings, drafty windows, and a longer process to acclimatize to colder temps. So, there! (LAist)
