SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
The biggest SoCal news is also national news: Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrested a “heavily armed” man they believe might have been trying to assassinate presidential candidate Donald Trump, who was giving a rally at Coachella. While Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said he believes suspect Vem Miller was plotting an attack, Miller says he is in fact a Trump supporter. Miller was taken into custody but released Saturday on $5000 bail.
In other news, a repeat robbery offender escaped from a Male Community Reentry Program facility in Los Angeles. Justin Gutierrez escaped Friday evening, but was located and taken back into custody by Saturday evening.

A brush fire broke out near Beaumont on Sunday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. As of Monday morning, no injuries or evacuations had been reported.
