Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 66.7% don’t like daylight saving time, while 32.7% do. Only 0.6% don’t care one way or the other.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) headed to 1023 North Berendo Street on Thursday around 1:41 p.m. The building, described as being a vacant and boarded-up two-story home, was “well involved with fire.” This property already burned on another occasion. Seventy-five firefighters spent 63 minutes putting out the blaze and preventing its spread to a neighboring one-story home. (LAFD)
  2. Who put white powder inside an envelope and mailed it to the University of Southern California’s Department of Public Safety Office? Better safe than sorry, the school called authorities Thursday afternoon, who arrived quickly at the 3600 block of the McClintock Avenue location. It turned out that the powder wasn’t dangerous, and the school tweeted out an “all clear” message just before 5:30 p.m. (Patch)
  3. As of Friday, your cash is no good at HomeState, the Mexican eatery at 13424 Ventura Boulevard; bring plastic. The restaurant’s management took this step after going through its seventh (!) break-in attempt in as many months. Citing workers’ sense of safety and morale, the business determined that “cash is an incentivization for criminals to burglarize.” Therefore, leave your cash at home. It’s interesting to note, HomeState isn't the only restaurant in the area to take this step. Casa Vega reportedly goes cashless on February 15. (HomeState)
  4. The Los Angeles City Planning Commission met Thursday and approved Apple’s proposed 334,000-square-foot project. The buildings will go up near National and Venice boulevards. Part of the project is a 58,000-square-foot open space area, “which would open onto Washington Boulevard.” (LA Urbanize)
  5. The L.A. Art Show is coming to the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC)! Running from February 15 to 19, it's the 28th return of what insiders call “the most comprehensive contemporary art show in America.” The show is open to the public; please park in the West Hall garage. (LACC)
