- Actress Yvette Mimieux died Tuesday at the age of 80. Her breakout role was “Weena” in the 1960 classic The Time Machine. Over the course of her career, she acted opposite Charlton Heston, Dean Martin, Max von Sydow, and Richard Chamberlain. She once defined the quality of roles written by men for women as being without complexity and all surface. "There's nothing to play. They're either sex objects or vanilla pudding." (KFI)
- A suspect has been arrested for the murder of the 24-year-old UCLA graduate student working in a Hancock Park furniture store. We learned Wednesday that the suspect is a 31-year-old male with a history of run-ins with the law. He “has a lengthy rap sheet with previous charges out of California, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Online records show at least 11 arrests in Charleston, S.C., dating back to 2010, including a pending case for allegedly discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle on Nov. 13, 2019.” (Fox 11)
- The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District “serves about 75,000 people in the communities of Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabasas, and Hidden Hills,” many of whom are celebrities. When Governor Gavin Newsom called for water conservation, these “customers greatly exceeded their water budgets.” Calabasas Mayor Mary Sue Maurer refers to it as a “lackluster response to the water emergency.” We learned Wednesday that “starting this month, customers will face fines if they go 150% over their monthly (water) budgets.” (Bakersfield Now)
- Last year, L.A. “set an all-time quarterly record” for movie production. It had declined by 48% in 2020, when the pandemic shut down most venues. Specifically, television production is coming back strong, which insiders attribute to “the proliferation of streaming services.” (Hollywood Reporter)
- Good Eggs, the online grocery retailer, is coming back to L.A. after a somewhat puzzling market exit in 2015. At the time, the company explained that it could not scale in keeping with its popularity. We learned Wednesday that it has gone back to the drawing board, made some changes, and “is also moving into meal kits, offering pre-packaged dinnertime portions and charcuterie boards and other ideas, delivered at home.” You can sign up for the service on a waitlist already!
