💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 21.9% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 19.2% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 39.7% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 19.2% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
- An officer with the LAPD shot a suspect Thursday after 5 p.m. The police were called because “of a man armed with a knife near the area of West Pico and Sawtelle boulevards.” He allegedly charged at the officers with the knife, which led to his death. (Fox LA)
- We learned on Thursday that the LAPD and U.S. Marshals had collaborated in locating and arresting “nearly 200 people suspected of murders, sexual assaults and other serious crimes in Los Angeles.” Dubbed Operation North Star, lawbreakers were found in all 11 subdivisions. In addition to the arrests, there were 47 firearms taken off the streets. (The Mercury News)
- The murder of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe is affecting several of our neighbors. Abe “attended USC’s Sol Price School of Public Policy for three semesters from 1978 to 1979.” "The Trojan Family is deeply saddened and shocked by the horrific shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, a proud Trojan who last visited USC in 2015, USC President Carol Folt said in a statement.” (LAist)
- The city reminded tenants and landlords on Thursday that the “Tenant Anti-Harassment Ordinance is in effect.” It refers to an ordinance that took effect in August and “prohibits landlords from harassing tenants by actions such as removing housing services, withholding repairs or refusing to accept rent payments.” (LA City, Housing LA City)
- Mark your calendars! Los Angeles is celebrating the completion of the Sixth Street Viaduct. After Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, there will be live music today with Ozomatli, “food trucks, a vintage car display, fireworks and a bridge-lighting” beginning at 2 p.m. On Sunday, pedestrians and bicycles may travel over the bridge from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Fox)
