- A burglar broke into the famous Sowden House at 5121 Franklin Ave. on Monday. Built by Lloyd Wright, it has set the scenes in movies such as Ghost Hunters and L.A. Confidential. The LAPD responded to the owner’s report of a burglary (caught on security cameras). “The burglary suspect, who barricaded himself in the home, has been taken into custody.” (CBS)
- A 2018 black Ford party bus was stolen Tuesday from 4010 Morena Boulevard in San Diego and made its way toward L.A. The California Highway Patrol pursued the bus on the Interstate 405 in L.A., followed it onto Interstate 5, and kept behind it on State Route 14 in Santa Clarita. Eyewitnesses reported “that the person driving it was driving crazy on the freeway and doing 90 mph.” Eventually, the driver was taken into custody on Pearblossom Highway near Palmdale. - The association representing Los Angeles County prosecutors voted Tuesday to back a recall of District Attorney George Gascón, who is their boss. Gascón had previously declined an invitation to address the group. “Recall organizers must collect 566,857 signatures from registered voters in Los Angeles County by July 6 to force a recall vote.” (Patch)
- The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) announced Tuesday that it wants your help! It wants you to join the Enforcement Alternatives Community Advisory Task Force. This particular group helps LADOT “develop policy recommendations.” (@LADOTofficial)
- Speaking of LADOT, the L.A. City Council voted on Tuesday to “reduce speeds on a number of city streets by five miles per hour.” This vote follows a recommendation from LADOT involving 177.2 miles of city streets. “I am thrilled to be able to restore saner speed limits to 177 miles of city streets,” Councilman Mike Bonin explained.
