- Two teen girls were robbed Wednesday around 7:20 a.m. when walking along the 7200 block of Melrose Avenue on their way to Fairfax High School. Two women tackled them from behind, demanded the teens’ cell phones, and kept the girls on the ground “until they unlocked the access codes to the phones.” According to L.A. School Police, “there's been six incidents of similar nature in the last week.” (ABC)
- There was a fire Saturday at around 3:28 a.m. at 784 South Crocker Street, which is north of the Fashion District. What began as a garbage fire and spread to “a strip of commercial buildings” that took 112 firefighters more than an hour to put out. The challenges they encountered were “stacked storage inside a textile business.” (Patch)
- If you’ve gotten sticker shock at the pump, you’re not alone. SoCal gasoline prices “hit all-time highs Friday,” and they’ll only go up. Refineries are soon going to be switching to the more expensive summer blend. To put it in perspective, L.A. gas prices reached “an average of $4.72.” Just FYI, in nearby Mono County, the average is $5.50. (KTLA)
- Jason Momoa has exchanged his Topanga digs for a RV. However, the actor isn’t exactly roughing it. We learned Saturday that he lives in a “$750,000 custom Ford EarthRoamer XV-LTi 026 RV.” Amenities include “a built-in Nespresso machine, induction cooktop, outdoor kitchen and a king-size mattress.” (The Real Deal)
- If you’re looking for a cool place to get some food, why not hit a deli? We learned Saturday that the Yangban Society serves kimchi breads, “Korean acorn noodles and griddle potato bread” and offers the laid-back atmosphere you’d expect from a deli. They’re open Thursday through Monday! (Spectrum News 1)
