Thunderstorms, Cyclist Dies Saving Hikers In Heat Wave: SoCal In Brief

LOS ANGELES — As the weekend wraps, we've rounded up some of the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into SoCal's other top stories: Firefighters are battling four wildfires that ignited around Riverside County over the weekend, and the forecast shows just slight relief from the heat in the coming days. There is also a slight chance for thunderstorms to form over the mountains Monday.

The heat wave is expected to continue virtually unabated for communities away from the coast, and forecasters warn fire dangers will remain high this week.

"While the valleys, mountains and deserts broil under a hot July sun this week, cooler mariner air will moderate temperatures within a few miles of the coast," NWS San Diego wrote Sunday afternoon. "The hot weather inland combined with breeze afternoons will keep fire weather concerns elevated. A brief surge of monsoon moisture may trigger isolated thunderstorms over the mountains Monday."
