Upcoming Closures Of Vincent Thomas Bridge

Over a three-week period, crews will install cable safety upgrades, which will lead to nighttime closures beginning next month.

SAN PEDRO, CA — Nighttime travelers near the San Pedro Bay port complex may have to consider a different route soon, as scheduled closures of the Vincent Thomas Bridge will take place as soon as October, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Over a three-week period, the bridge will be closed in one or both directions between 8 p.m. and reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning. According to Caltrans, there are no scheduled closures during the weekend.

During the closures, crews will safely install cable safety upgrades, officials said.

Motorists traveling on southbound State Route 47 were advised to:

  1. exit at Ferry Street;
  2. turn left to take the on-ramp to northbound State Route 47;
  3. continue onto northbound State Route 103;
  4. take the exit for northbound State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway);
  5. travel on Pacific Coast Highway to the Interstate 110 interchange.

Motorists traveling northbound were advised to take one of the following detour routes:

  • From southbound Interstate 110, exit at Pacific Coast Highway, turn left and take either Harry Bridges Boulevard or State Route 103 to State Route 47.
  • From northbound State Route 47, exit at Harbor Boulevard, turn left to go northbound on Harbor Boulevard, turn right on Pacific Avenue, turn right on Harry Bridges Boulevard, which turns into Alameda Street, and then continue to State Route 47.
  • From southbound Harbor Boulevard, take the northbound Interstate 110 on-ramp then exit at Pacific Coast Highway, turn right and take either Harry Bridges Boulevard or State Route 103 to State Route 47.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, so travelers were advised to visit the Caltrans Quickmap for the latest road conditions and closures.
