🌱 Venice Boardwalk Narcotics Death + Feds Want Holmby Hills Mansion

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

(Patch Media)

Hello, people of Los Angeles; today is National Recognition Day for Nurses, which the United States Congress designated in 1982! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Los Angeles Daily.

Drugs may have killed another individual on the Venice boardwalk. Also, why does the federal government want to seize a $63.5 million mansion? Finally, a Boyle Heights park project is approved!

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. The LAPD responded to the Venice boardwalk area around Ocean Front Walk and Brooks Avenue on Thursday morning around 6:30 a.m. “When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man between ages 30 and 40 up against the bathroom near the boardwalk. The police suspect the death was related to narcotics use.” (Los Angeles Times)
  2. There’s a Holmby Hills mansion that is on the market for $63.5 million. However, the Justice Department on Monday filed paperwork to size the property. The Feds allege that it “was purchased with millions in bribe money paid to the former finance minister of Armenia and his sons.” (The San Diego Union Tribune)
  3. The 13-acre park under the Sixth Street Viaduct is a go! We learned Wednesday that the City Council approved the $30-million project that creates “new open spaces at the foot of the bridge in Boyle Heights and in the Arts District of downtown LA.” (Boyle Heights Beat)
  4. LAPD West Traffic said on Thursday that “there have been 9 fatal traffic collisions in (the) Pacific Division” so far this year. With Mother’s Day coming up, officers “will be conducting enforcement task forces today, Saturday and on Sunday in Pacific Division. Pedestrians and drivers, please obey the rules of the road!” (LAPD West Traffic)
  5. Mark your calendars! Free Comic Book Day is Saturday. “Over 2,000 stores around the country take part in Free Comic Book Day, which is intended to promote comics and attract new readers to independent comic book stores across North America.” Mega City One at 7301 Melrose Avenue is participating!
