Video Shows In-Flight Outburst, Stabbing Attempt After LAX Takeoff
A man aboard the LA-to-Boston flight has been charged in federal court after the Sunday incident.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A Massachusetts man arrested over the weekend after an outburst aboard a plane that took off from LAX threatened passengers with a broken spoon and claimed to be a biblical figure before being subdued, according to a video of the incident.
Francisco Severo Torres, 33, of Leominster, Mass., was arrested and charged Sunday with one count of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon after the plane landed at Logan International Airport in Boston, according to officials.
A video of the incident showed Torres yelling from his seat at passengers, proclaiming he could withstand being shot. He also claimed to be the biblical figure Balthazar, and said "there's going to be a bloodbath" when the plane lands.

"I won't die when I take every bullet in that clip," Torres says in the video. "And then I will kill every man on this plane. So where are they? Where's Homeland Security? Pull the gun."
The video then shows Torres get up out of his seat, apparently holding a broken spoon. The video then shows him rush toward the plane door before passengers and flight crew tackle him.

Torres "thrust towards one of the flight attendants in a stabbing motion with a broken metal spoon, hitting the flight attendant on the neck area three times," before passengers and flight crew worked together to retain him, according to federal prosecutors.
United Airlines told Patch that no serious injuries were reported.
"Thanks to the quick action of our crew and customers, one customer was restrained after becoming a security concern," United Airlines said in a statement. "We have zero tolerance for any type of violence on our flights, and this customer will be banned from flying on United pending an investigation. We are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation."
