📢 Fireworks Poll!
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Scofflaws may be fined $500, $1,000, or more. How do you feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts! (As of today, 75.8% don’t want fireworks, 13.7% want “safe and sane fireworks,” 9.5% want to choose what to buy, and another 1.1% don’t care one way or the other.)

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. When the Vista Theatre closed at the start of the pandemic, its future was uncertain. Then, Quentin Tarantino bought the property in July 2021. Since then, it has been crickets. However, we are learning now that an application has been filed for a Type 41 alcohol license. As we learned on Friday, “while ABC licenses don’t always mean an opening is imminent, it is a big sign that things are progressing along smoothly.” (LA Eater)
  2. Union Bank Plaza is back on the market. KBS Real Estate had hoped to see the parcel at 445 South Figueroa Street to Harbor Associates in neighboring Long Beach for $165 million. However, we learned on Friday that the deal “fizzled.” (The Real Deal/paywall)
  3. On Wednesday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Fugitive Task Force apprehended a 32-year-old suspect in the murder of two people "on June 16 in the 6100 block of Carlos Avenue." The suspect is now at the LAPD's Olympic Division, “booked on a no-bail murder warrant.” (ABC)
  4. If you’ve noticed that your favorite meal delivery program has changed, you aren’t alone. A report on Friday outlined how inflation is affecting some meal delivery services that locals have come to love. Changes include ingredient substitutions, changes in cooking methods and delivery times. (Spectrum News 1)
  5. Mark your calendars! July 4th is right around the corner, and Los Angeles is getting ready to party. On July 1 and 4, there will be fireworks at the LA Dodgers. On the fourth, there are the LAX Coastal Parade and the Grand Park Block Party and Fireworks. (Patch)
