WESTMINSTER, CA — The Westminster Mall in Orange County is preparing to close its doors for good after serving for decades as a community hub and popular shopping center, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Many of the shops in the mall will close permanently come Wednesday, Oct. 29 when leases expire, according to the report. The once-popular mall will be redeveloped into a mixed-use site for housing, leisure and retail, according to the City of Westminster.

The 100-acre property — located on the south side of the 405 Freeway — could soon offer 3,000 housing units and at least 600,000 square feet of upscale retail space.
