A search was underway today for a woman who took off with her 5-year-old grandson after meeting the boy and his estranged parents for dinner at a Westminster fast-food restaurant, police said.

The child’s parents and 56-year-old grandmother, Jessica Truong, met at a Carl’s Jr. restaurant at 13425 Beach Blvd. about 10:45 p.m. Monday to discuss child-custody issues, according to Westminster police Officer Rachel Archambault.

When the parents stepped outside for a discussion, Truong led the boy out a side door, Archambault said. Truong left her vehicle behind in the restaurant parking lot, she said.

The boy, identified by police as Isaiah Michael Alvarado, is 4 feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, the officer said. The youngster, who is of Vietnamese heritage, was wearing a white shirt and blue cargo pants when last seen, Archambault said.
