SEAL BEACH, CA — Get rid of the old mattress in your garage at Seal Beach's Dump Day coming up on March 9.

Residents will be able to drop off any bulky household waste, including mattresses, furniture, toys and e-waste, free of charge. Caltrans staff will be on-site to help collect the large items, officials said.

"This event is organized to further Caltrans' goal of keeping our highways litter-free as part of the Clean California Initiative.

The drop-off point will be at the Public Works Yard at 1776 Adolfo Lopez Dr. from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or until intake capacity is reached.

The following items will not be able to be accepted:

  • Hazardous materials such as batteries, paints, oils, chemicals, pesticides, smoke detectors and fluorescent lights
  • Concrete, dirt, rocks, bricks, asphalt or sand
  • Treated wood
  • Tires

Space at the drop-off is limited, so waste may not be accepted once capacity is reached. Loads are required to be covered or they may not be accepted.
