Earth Day Events

Earth Day is April 22 but don't wait until Sunday! There's a full slate of activities beginning Saturday all around our area, and righ in our own backyard.

Saturday 

Exhibit's Final Weekend, Sat-Sun, noon to 4 p.m.: This exhibit's key focus was to raise awareness and provide a local context for concerns about water. This is the closing weekend, and a few special elements have been added:

- Exhibitors offering information on how to conserve and protect our water resources.

- Artist Gregory Gavin will be back with a play river which gives kids an opportunity to play with water, build and float boats, etc.  These more hands on than the Orchard River that Gregory constructed for the opening weekend. 

-Kathy Machado, the Water Wizard, will perform her wonderful magic show at 1 p.m.

- , 9 a.m. at the Citibank Plaza, 130 Main St., downtown 

- : Plants, exhibits, books for sale and experts on hand to advise those who want to learn about unthirsty alternatives to a lawn, including native perennials, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses.

Sunday

Mary Davey Pathway Plaque Dedication - 10:30 a.m., Byrne Preserve. If you've ever walked any of the open space preserves, from to Pichetti Ranch, you have, in part,  to thank for that—and much more—in this valley. Representatives from the Town of Los Altos Hills, the Committee for Green Foothills, , Acterra, Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, and Hidden Villa will be present. Wear sturdy shoes, for the plaque will be placed on a buckeye tree that is on a hill. (Using GPS? Put Westwind Barn as the location 27210 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills, 94022)

Earth Day Celebration, 1-4 p.m., , Los Altos Hills: “Live Wild Cats” education presentation by Leopard’s Etc. (1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.)  In addition to exhibits by Los Altos Hills Committees, local environmental organizations and school groups electric cars will be on display.

- 10:30 a.m., Linden Tree Books, 265 State St. Join authors Rana DiOrio and Land Wilson (Little Pickle Press) in association with The Parents' Club of Palo Alto and Menlo Park (PAMP) for a community reading event for young people and their families in Silicon Valley. The theme is, "What Does It Mean To Be Global on Earth Day?" This event is free and open to the public.
