Friday Movie Nights: The Love Bug

Where/When: Main Street between Second and Third streets, Los Altos / 6 p.m. open for chair/blanket placement, 8:30 p.m. movie shows

Why Go: Relive the 1960s and the exploits of Herbie, the Beetle with a mind of its own, and a blistering race car, to boot. There will also be an original VW Beetle display. Movies are shown on Main Street at the 3rd Street intersection. Main Street is closed between 2nd and 3rd Streets at 5 pm. The Los Altos Village Association is your host. You may set out chairs, sleeping bags, blankets and picnics, beginning at 6:00 pm. Seating is first come, first served. All movies begin at 8:30 pm.

Summer Outdoor Movie Nights: Cars 2

Where/When: , Mountain View / Movies begin at 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: If you liked Lightning McQueen and his buddies in Radiator Springs, Cars 2 doesn't disappoint. Put on by the Mountain View Parks and Recreation Department and the Youth Advisory Commission, which serves up free popcorn.

SATURDAY

Where/When: 100 E. Main Street, Los Gatos / 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why go: Enjoy 150 artists, gourmet food wine and beer, and live music over two days. Gourmet food trucks, local South Bay and Santa Cruz Mountain wineries, children's activities and bouncy house, plus lots of live music. Proceeds go to the Kiwanis Club of Los Gatos.

Twilight Summer Concert Series

Where/When: California Avenue, east of El Camino Real, Palo Alto / Aug. 11, 6:30-8 p.m.

Why Go: In this summer of tribute bands, when were we going to get the classic bands? Here it is, The Unauthorized Rolling Stones. Los Altos' summer concert series just ended Thursday, so lovers of free summer concerts have to look beyond.

Price: Free

Jazz & Beyond: The Joint Chiefs

Where/When: Murphy Street, downtown Sunnyvale / Aug. 11, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Joint Chiefs, a rhythm and blues band, is the headliner in downtown Sunnyvale's cute quarter. Choose from among the restaurants or park yourself on a bench and enjoy.
