3 Hikers Rescued, Including 2 Children, At Big Basin: Police

The two young children were starting to suffer from hypothermia before they were rescued, according to California Highway Patrol.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Three lost hikers, including two young children suffering from hypothermia, were rescued overnight by authorities, according to California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Air Operations.

Highway patrol responded late Sunday evening to a request to help locate three lost hikers in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, the agency said in a social media post, adding the two young children in the group were starting to suffer from hypothermia.

Highway patrol found the hikers on a remote trail and the trio were loaded into a helicopter and flown to waiting fire personnel and an ambulance, according to the state agency, which said all three were treated and released.
