The number of DUI-related arrests on California highways is up from the 621 arrests reported last year.

CALIFORNIA -- More than 900 people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and 27 people were killed, including one officer, on California highways over the Christmas weekend. The number is up from the 621 drivers arrested during the same time last year, the California Highway Patrol said.
Among the number of people killed was a CHP officer who was reportedly struck by an alleged drunk driver. Andrew Camilleri, who had been with the state agency for a little over a year, was killed on Christmas Eve.
The CHP said six of the people killed over the weekend were not wearing seat belts. The number of those killed is an decrease from last year, when 36 people died.
