Afternoon Thunderstorms Possible In Los Gatos: NWS

The National Weather Service said thunderstorms are possible south of Silicon Valley and near the coast Monday afternoon.

LOS GATOS, CA — Thunderstorms are possible in Los Gatos after 3 p.m., the National Weather Service reports. The NWS also says that there is a 20-30% chance of Monday afternoon thunderstorms south of San Jose, and in the coastal waters.

Los Gatos is partly cloudy with slow winds as of Monday at 11:30 a.m., according to the NWS. However, there is an 80% chance that rain will continue throughout the rest of the day. As of 11 a.m. Monday, San Jose has seen a 24-hour rain total of 0.19 inches, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, but totals in the mountains are much higher: Loma Prieta recorded 1.30 inches, and Corralitos reported 1.06.

Los Gatos has been walloped with weather-related power outages: On Sunday, PG&E reported 16 different storm-related outages throughout the day due to adverse weather that affected a total of 3,558 customers.

On Sunday night, the Mountain View Police Department tweeted that more than 14,000 customers lost power. Power has been restored as of Monday morning.

While the weather is relatively calm in Los Gatos, flash flood watches are continuing through Monday evening at the Colorado and Dolan burn scars near Big Sur due to the potential of heavy rain. In January, the Colorado Fire burned nearly 700 acres in the area.

In Los Gatos, thunderstorms and rain may continue through the evening, and patchy fog is expected Tuesday morning, before temperatures rise to the 60s and the clouds clear away by the end of Tuesday.
