Bear Creek Road Reopens After Winter Storm Repairs
A segment of the road near Los Gatos closed in March after a culvert failed during a powerful storm.

LOS GATOS, CA — Maintenance crews have completed repairs on a stretch of Bear Creek Road that was severely damaged by winter storms. A section through the Santa Cruz Mountains had been closed since March after a culvert failed and created a "cavernous hole" near the Beark Creek Redwood Open Space Preserve.
Contractors have worked in the months since to completely rebuild the road and install a new culvert and recently completed the project.
According to the county, work still continues on more than two dozen other road segments damaged by the historic storms. Three sections still remain closed, including the Old Santa Cruz Highway over Lexington Reservoir, Aldercroft Heights Road along the reservoir, and Clayton Road near Mount Hamilton.

Officials estimate completing all repairs will cost more than $15 million, but the county should be eligible for federal funding through FEMA's major disaster declaration. Residents can follow along with ongoing storm repairs on the county's website.
