CHP Cruiser Struck On Highway 17 Amid Uptick In Crashes

There were over a dozen crashes on a small stretch of Highway 17 in recent days, including one that left a CHP vehicle damaged.

LOS GATOS, CA — A California Highway Patrol car that was stopped on the shoulder of state Highway 17 during a crash investigation was struck by another vehicle Saturday morning.

Neither the officer nor the driver of the vehicle was injured, the highway patrol said on social media.

The officer was dealing with an earlier crash on southbound Highway 17, south of Summit Road, and positioned his car on the right shoulder with the emergency lights flashing, the CHP said.

The highway patrol didn't disclose whether the driver who crashed into the patrol car was cited. A CHP spokesman didn't respond to a request for comment.

In 48 hours, CHP officers based in Santa Cruz and San Jose responded to over a dozen crashes on southbound Highway 17 near Summit Road, the highway patrol said.
