Downtown Parking Fees Could Come To Los Gatos

Most unlimited time parking spaces in downtown Los Gatos are expected to be eliminated in favor of employee parking spaces.

LOS GATOS, CA — Los Gatos may soon implement parking fees downtown.

The town council unanimously voted Tuesday for staff to prepare an ordinance that would implement a $2.50 per hour fee after three hours of free parking.

Most unlimited time parking spaces in downtown Los Gatos are expected to be eliminated in favor of employee parking spaces. The unlimited time spaces not used for employee parking will become three-hour spaces, according to a staff report.

Visitors would still be able to park free for three hours before paying a fee.

The town is expected to install pay stations allowing for both electronic and cash payments.

The council discussed a rate higher than town staff’s recommendation of $1 per hour with a maximum daily rate of $8.

“This low rate along with the first three hours free should encourage visitors to shop and dine in Downtown Los Gatos,” staff wrote in the report.
